James Coppinger strikes again for in-form Doncaster

Man of the moment James Coppinger scored his third goal in four games as Doncaster secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Newport in Sky Bet League Two.

Striker Andy Williams also struck as high-flying Rovers earned a fifth win in six league matches at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Veteran midfielder Coppinger was honoured with a minute's applause by the home support in minute 26 - his long-standing shirt number - on his 501st appearance for Rovers.

By then he had already had fans on their feet as he curled home a sublime free-kick from 20 yards after 17 minutes.

The hosts always had the edge and Harry Middleton, John Marquis and Williams all went close to extending the lead, while visiting Newport battled well but rarely threatened.

Williams made sure of the points in the 59th minute when he latched on to Tommy Rowe's cutback and curled a powerful effort into the far corner from 15 yards.

Williams should have made it three after a breakaway but hesitated over his shot with Jordan Houghton also well-placed

Joe Wright then headed off the line from Rhys Healey in stoppage time as County came close to a late consolation.
